| PRE-OPERATIVE INFORMATION: | ||
| During your personal consultation we will obtain a complete medical history. If you use medications, or have any health issues we should know about, please inform us so we can design the best treatment program to achieve a successful result. Smoking can seriously affect your health. It also slows the healing
and recovery process.
It is important to discontinue smoking just
before and after surgery or to stop smoking altogether.
Medications such as aspirin, blood thinners and anti-inflammatory
drugs, can be a hindrance during surgery.
It is important to notify us and discontinue
these medications 2 weeks prior to surgery.
Prior to the surgery day, we usually prescribe medications that you
will need to purchase for use before and after surgery.
Pre-Operative and Day of Surgery:
You will be given precriptions, pre and post operative instructions,
and any necessary information prior to the surgery. You will be given
ice packs and post-operative instructions on the day of surgery.
Please dress comfortably and wear socks to keep your feet warm.
Please leave any
jewelry and personal affects at home!
We will notify you of your arrival time. Ladies, please come without
make-up.
After arriving, you will meet the anesthetist who will administer
the I.V. anesthesia.
We always try to keep our patients well-informed and as comfortable
as possible.
Most procedures last 1-4 hours depending on the procedure.
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your
procedure.
Under no circumstances should you eat breakfast
or solid foods the morning of surgery - this includes gum and mints.
Take the prescribed oral medication(s) at
the appropriate time with a sip of water as needed.
If you take diabetes medications or blood
thinners or aspirin, do not take these the day of surgery.
If you have any questions regarding
your medications, please ask my staff or myself. |
