Botulinum Toxin type A (BTA) is a deactivated bacterium, which relaxes muscles by blocking the corresponding nerve endings. Ophthalmologists have been using BTA for over ten years to treat ocular misalignment disorders and severe spasms of the eyelids and face. Ophthalmologists discovered that by using BTA at a lower dose, facial lines and wrinkles were significantly minimized.

The treatment is quick and requires no anesthesia. However, to make the procedure virtually pain free, an advanced topical anesthetic is applied to the area. The benefits of this treatment can last an average of 3-6 months depending on the individual. Most patients are quite pleased with the results. You may resume your normal activity the same day. After treatment, I often recommend that the patient go home and put an ice mask over the areas to reduce swelling and keep the prescribed medicine localized. I have used BTA for years clinically to treat facial spasms. The FDA approved it for use as an effective treatment for facial lines and wrinkles. The increasing popularity and growth in product demand speak for itself.

Most Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

Will I still be able to make a facial expression?

Yes. The first few weeks after treatment there is a minor mask like effect to the facial expression around the eyes. This wears off. As the facial movements return, the wrinkles are not nearly as noticeable.

  Q:
Is there any risk of getting botulism or becoming ill?

No. You would have to use many bottles to achieve this toxic dose. We may use up to half of one bottle for 1 treatment. So, it is next to impossible.

  Q:
When may I resume my normal activities?

Same day as treatment.
